WebHopeman in Moray was a planned village established in 1805 by William Young of Inverugie to house people from the Clearances. Fishing and quarrying were established and the sandstone from Hopeman became a popular building stone. There is no commercial fishing now but the harbour is used for pleasure craft and tourism is key to the town's economy.
